Structure

A friend and colleague sent me something today about authority and it got me thinking a bit. I’m not much of a structure person naturally, but I’ve learned the hard way that for me, structure is actually very freeing. There are whole swaths of my life now that I don’t have to worry much about because they are so structured I know pretty much exactly what to expect and how to function. That serves the unstructured time I have left very well because there is far less chaos, far more time for unhurried intimacy with others, and far more fertile ground for creative pursuits. Not to mention the blessing of reasonable financial stability. I don’t particularly like structure and authority, but my life is far happier and peaceful with it.
